Scaling & Root Planing

Scaling and root planing, often referred to as a deep cleaning, involves removing the source of infection below the gumline. Using special instruments, Dr. Al will carefully remove plaque and tartar from the roots of the teeth and in the pockets surrounding them, before smoothing the roots to help gum tissue reattach.
Antibiotic Treatment

In some cases, antibiotic therapy can also be used (often alongside scaling and root planing) to help control gum disease. Antibiotics can be applied directly to affected gum pockets, working to reduce harmful bacteria that contribute to gum disease once the source of the infection has been cleaned away.
