Dr. Al says that seeing the difference he can make in his patients’ lives makes all the time, effort, and training he’s done over the years worth it. He especially enjoys challenging cases, helping someone who has struggled with their teeth for years smile confidently again. Seeing their reaction at the end and knowing what the work means for them is the most rewarding part of being a dentist.

Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Dr. Al knew in high school that he wanted to go into healthcare, and he was drawn to dentistry because it combines medical knowledge, hands-on skills, and personal interaction. He liked the idea of being able to solve problems with his hands while also building long-term relationships with patients and seeing the impact of treatment over time. Dentistry also gives him the opportunity to keep learning, develop new skills, and continually improve what he can offer his patients.

(It also helps that he has two sisters as well as several cousins and uncles who are dentists, so he got to see how fulfilling the profession could be firsthand. He also worked as a dental hygienist before becoming a dentist, so he had the opportunity to experience dentistry from different sides of patient care.)

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

After graduating from the University of Baghdad, Dr. Al came to the United States and went on to earn his dental degree from the UCLA School of Dentistry. Now with over a decade of experience, he is dedicated to refining his techniques through continuing education, and he consistently researches and invests in the latest, proven technology.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Dr. Al and his wife, Dr. Farah Niyazi (a periodontist), are the proud parents of a young daughter named Raya. When he’s not at the office, he enjoys spending time with family, working on home and landscaping projects, and exploring new technology. He is always tinkering and figuring out how things work, whether it’s building something, 3D printing, or learning a new skill. He has also recently started getting into woodworking. Naturally curious, he always seems to have a project going, so be sure to ask him about it at your appointment!
