When Are Tooth Extractions Necessary?
There are many reasons why a tooth extraction may be recommended, but some of the most common situations include:
- Severe decay that has damaged a tooth beyond repair
- Advanced gum disease that has destroyed the supportive tissue surrounding a tooth
- A tooth is too fractured or broken to be restored with a crown
- Teeth are overcrowded and room needs to be made for orthodontic treatment
- Teeth are impacted, meaning they aren’t erupting properly (often the case with the wisdom teeth)
If it’s determined that a tooth extraction is necessary, Dr. Al will walk you through the process and ensure that you feel informed every step of the way. While teeth can sometimes be removed with special forceps, surgical extraction is also a possibility. In either case, we can perform the whole procedure right here at our office.
